Titanium dioxide - activated carbon composite for photoelectrochemical degradation of phenol

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, titanium dioxide (TiO2) and – activated carbon composite (TiO2–AC) were prepared by sol-gel method for photoelectrochemical (PEC) applications. Characterization of the materials was performed scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, diffraction, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The results show that TiO2 successfully loaded on (AC), producing TiO2–AC with 2.61 eV bandgap energy, lower than (3.15 eV). Photoanodes based fabricated applied to PEC experiments phenol degradation. comparison photoanode, one exhibited superior photocatalytic activity, which indicated a high current density effective removal. A mechanism degradation photoanode proposed, includes interaction between protonated active sites bearing oxygen surface. kinetic model according also established fitted experimental findings, resulting in rate constants elementary reactions.

Degradation of Phenol in Water by Titanium Dioxide Photocatalysis

The photocatalytic degradation of phenol in a static-batch photoreactor, using a UV lamp as a light source and TiO 2 as a photocatalyst, was investigated. The effects of various parameters, such as photocatalyst dosage, initial substrate concentration, reaction pH and addition of oxidants, on the phenol degradation rate of TiO 2 photocatalysis were examined. The degradation rates proved to be s...

Oxidized activated carbon as support for titanium dioxide in UV-assisted degradation of 3-chlorophenol

Strong adsorption of pollutants on activated carbon may inhibit their diffusion to the catalyst on the surface of the adsorbent and hence reduce he whole photocatalytic process. Oxidation of the carbon surface will change the adsorption properties of the carbon; and increase the capability of arbon surface to carry more titanium dioxide. In this work, activated carbon was oxidized with differen...
